House Shoes
Although it’s very much a cultural issue, I prefer having separate shoes for when I’m at home. You can change between shoes at the porch, and doing so will ensure that you don’t track in filth. Indoor shoes can also provide your feet with support and, at the same time, be more comfortable than lace ups.
Personally, I can’t stand having shoes on in the house. It’s not a cleanliness thing, I just feel uncomfortable, like I’m not really home. I feel the same way about a wristwatch. Doesn’t matter how comfy the shoes are, I need to take them off as soon as I get in. Come in, put down bags, put wallet and keys on table, take off coat, take off shoes, take off watch. If I skip any of those steps I’ll have some daemon in the back of mind bugging me about it until I rectify things.
Anyway, read the rest of this post for some good house shoe buying options. I think I’ll get a pair for my father this Christmas.
